Piney Woods of N.E. Texas

Hi, Am back after a few years away from this great site. Missed it. Am in Naples, Texas, which is up in the northeast part of the state. We're about 40 miles west of Texarkana. Am a barely over 60 rider with just one horse, two cats and one husband. My gal is a TWH - dun overo paint - named Storm Rider. Am an Army and Air Force veteran married to a retired AF guy and have written a few articles for various horse and non-horse magazines over the years. Hope to meet some of you somewhere along one of the trails we hope to travel. I have so many questions - will go and check a few threads each day - there just SO MANY interesting ones.

mtndrmr, you should pop in and say hello to your fellow Texans on the Texas Horse Friends thread.........I bet some of the folks there are probably in your neck of the woods!

Thanks!!!

Thanks to both of you for the welcome! The nicest folks are on this forum site!
Hope you're getting some of the sun we're so thankful for. Have been out sneezing and grooming Storm - lots of winter hair and spring pollen in the air. But it's so nice to see green grass and ladybugs again. My grapes have leaves and the wild plums across the road have started flowering and the outside cat, who's blind in one eye, is out sunning himself and probably fantacizing about the new mole hills... Sure can't complain.

Welcome back!

Thanks! Great to be back! Can hardly wait to get in more riding, weather permitting. Am afraid I'm a fair weather rider - roughing it in rain or snow is way in the past although I sure would like to rough it on a camping or discovery trip. Do any of you belong to ACTHA and how do you like it? Was a charter member but had to let it lapse due to too young horses and too old a body. Now am in better shape - horse and hiney-wise so am gonna give it a try.

There are a few ACTHA competitions around here (honestly haven't kept up with it in awhile tho) and I've always wanted to go to one and check it out. I ride endurance, so my horses have seen and done quite a few things but when they get in situations like trail courses, well suddenly they see boogers everywhere.

I know most people consider 'well-trained' horses to be the ones who are well-trained (maneuvers, cues, aids, etc) and don't care about boogers and remain calm in any situation.

I beg to differ - I have horses that are VERY well-trained, but just not the most obedient! That's two different things in my book! :D:D:D ACTHA is on my bucket list, that's for sure. Looks like a blast.
