What else can I do to bond with my horse?
So now that I can go to stables much more (several times a day if I want)
What all can I do to bond and with my horse and work with him to help him with his ground manners, respect for me, etc besides grooming him, lunging him, grazing him, walking him, riding him...
Find his "good spot" and be sure to scratch him there right before you catch him and right after you put him away.
I talk to mine a lot, rub him where he likes it, brush him, just go out in the pasture and watch him and wait for him to come over and see me..just spend time with him doing whatever I can.
It's worked for me! :)
Yeah, sometimes I like to just stand by his head and talk to him and rub him.
Yeah! Other than that I don't know! Sounds like you are doing the right things so far. Maybe give him his favorite treats when you talk to him and stuff?
This may be an old myth but I heard when I was little that if you blow into a horses nose it's a good thing for bonding. Truth? I dono!
I know we all love to go out love all our horse's, but if your talking about real bonding, that comes when the horse relinquishing his leadership to you. True bonding happens when the horse knows he can trust you to keep him safe.
Bonding 101 at our house?
Tarp training, put some hay in the middle of a big tarp and encourage him to eat off it.
Set up a little trail course and hand walk you horse thru it. Backing them through a "L" takes trust on their part.
Practice an emergency get out of the barn with a towel over his head. This must be done very very slowly. I started by just covering their eyes with my hand for longer and longer.
Got a kidde pool? Throw some grain in the middle and let him try to eat out of it.
Bonding comes from working with the horse, he develops more and more trust in you and accepts that when you ask him to do something it's okay he's not going to get hurt.
You can feed him trreats all day, that's not bonding, your just a Pez dispenser.
Hey G&K! thanks for posting that stuff, lol ill actually use that thanks :)
Teaching respect also helps with bonding.
what do you mean by installing buttons?
I have no idea what that is either! I can't wait to hear!
