This is gettin on my last NERVE!!
Hey guys, Well this is a problem that has plaqued me for a long time now and its really tickin me off.

FOR SOME REASON, i cant sit the lope. I keep bouncin out of the saddle and i know nana is like "AHHH!!!". Sometimes i can sit the lope and sometimes its just a train wreck..

I know to relax, shoulders back and relax tummy, heels line up with your shoulders and you rock your hips.. I know all that but for some reason i just cant seem to get it!!

I need some advice, I will try anythin... i love to lope -when i can sit it-

does nana have the old "broken" lope? the really slow canter in the front trot in the back that western pleasure horses used to have or does she have a regular lope?

If she has that old broken style, I'd speed her up because that old lope is miserable to sit.

As for you bouncing... Ok... let's see...

Take a deep breath. don't worry too much about your equitation. Make sure you are on your pockets, heels are down, don't push on your heels, push on the balls of your feet... the inside portion actually... your calves won't be tight on the horse, just kind of loose. You will be holding on with the inside of your thighs. Don't let your body tense, that's why the bounce, you are probably tensing up... just lean back, close your eyes if you have to, it's amazing how you can get the feel w/ your eyes closed... it sounds to me like you are just trying to hard....

for my students, i would always tell them to lean back 2 inches more than normal - it really puts your balance in a different place :)

also, the motion with your hips is similar to scooting up a chair to a desk. ;-)

another thing that helped my students was telling them to "ride down" - imagine you have a $100 bill under your butt - - and don't let it escape :) (riding down, as opposed to back and forth...) :-)

Can someone "loan" me a hundred bucks...?

Sometimes the thing that helps me most... is watching. I'll go to shows sometimes and not ride... just watch... sometimes I see a person do something and boom... the light go's on... try youtube....

Lots of non-stirrup work. See if someone can put you on the lunge line so you can focus on your seat.

Ok guys, well i experiment today on the lope. I noticed that if i lean back alittle and sit on my back pockets, i can ride the lope much easier because i find it easier to move my hips with nana motion.

What is weird though, when i looked at me and nana's shadow on the hill along side the road, it looked like i was sittin up straight when i sat on my back pockets..

Am i suppose to sit on my back pockets? because i noticed if i try to sit up straight and scoot up to the horn, i notice i bounce ALOT, but when i kinda lean back (back is still straight, atleast i think it was) i can move my hips WAY better and hardly to no bounce.

hmmmmmm..... ugh.. it just annoyin that i am having so much trouble.
