Reminder to clean your supplies
Hey everyone!
So I am a subscriber of Horse Illustrated magazine, and basically it reminded me to do some spring cleaning!
So today, I went through all of my grooming supplies. I washed everything with water, but I threw out an old dandy brush, mane/tail brush, comb, and old Vaseline. So even if you do this once a year or so, it's a great idea to make sure all of your tack is clean as your horses are starting to shed out, or just as the weather is getting warmer.

Also, how often do you replace/clean your grooming supplies? The last time I cleaned was a while ago, and I haven't really had many replacements thus far, this will be my first decent restocking purchase for the essentials.

**ALSO I'm in the process of putting together a horsey first aid kit... something I should have had a long time ago! Thankfully I have access to other first aid kits when necessary, but I'd like to have one of my own to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks :)

I have been using the same stuff since I got my horse almost 2 years ago, with an exception to a new mane and tail brush. Everything is so beat, I think it's time for new supplies! I have been eyeing an Oster grooming kit for a few months now, I might just splurge and buy it.

I have some Oster supplies! They're a little pricey in comparison to some of the other grooming supplies on the market, but they are such great quality and they hold up really well! I'm going on year two of supplies as well (I will be in a few months anyway), and some of the supplies are holding up fabulously and others I decided to toss today. There was this brown filmy grime in my mane and tail comb that I really wasn't looking forward to scrubbing out... So buh-bye comb.

Yup. My order of grooming stuff came in this month. I am a younger rider so I saved up 100 dollars so I could tame a pony shopping spree. While the stuff is brand new, I am keeping it to myself plus I have some favorite brushes that work well so I haven't thrown anything out. My family still needs to clean their horses too!!

Haha same here I have had the same stuff since I got my first horse 3 years ago! bad i know! but I have replaced one or two brushes here and there. I just got new groom boxes for christmas. I've slowly been adding brushes and things to them when I see stuff at the Co-op or Tracker supply. I'm gonna take them out to barn after shedding season!

I recently cleaned out a cupboard in the barn. Things I use all the time are kept current as are items in the kit in the horse trailer. But some of the items in the cupboard went into the trash as I am sure they were older than some of the members on this board. Sprays and first-aid items need to be at least within a respectable time of the expiration date...not years past that date.
I have the same problem with spices in the kitchen that get pushed to the back of the shelf.
