Coming to a pasture near me soon.

Spoke with the trainer I have working with one of my geldings about finding a home for my older daughter's brood mare and finding a more suitable horse for riding without needing quite so much training needed. She just so happened to have a friend in a financial bind looking to rehome her 7 year old gelding bay roan.

I was apprehensive because I was looking more for an older, more seasoned horse that had been there done that so everyone of us could be able to ride. Turns out he was trained by the original owner to work cows, but was too slow so they through him out with the cows for 2 years before this lady bought him. They did about 30 minutes of ground work with him, saddled him up and have not looked back in the 2 years she has had him. She has yet to find a vice in him other than cribbing in the stall after meals, but he wears a collar for that.

She had back surgery back in November and her ability to provide proper care for him is deminishing fast so she wanted to find him a home before it got too bad. I went to look at him last night with my 12 yr old daughter and the frigging horse took to her like dust to a mantle. I immediately thought about Beauty and the Beast watching him follow her around without a lead rope or anything. After she made her first step he then began to follow and as soon as she stopped he stopped with his head about 8 inches off her shoulder. I told her to side step to her left, slowly turn to walk to her left and he fell right into the pattern with his head down and ears forward.

I took the position to lead him around and he looked at her before following me as if to get her permission. He never let the rope get tight before paying attention to me instead of anyone around us.

I am going back on Wednesday to saddle him for a ride before loading him on the trailer to take home. He is current on all vacs and coggins and she is having her farrier come to my place to trim him Thursday.

Now these are the only 2 pics I have that she sent me as I didn't think to take pics while I was there. The pics do not do him justice and make him look worse than he is. Albeit he has lost muscle tone from lack of work due to her back surgery and won't take long to get him back into shape. I was honestly expecting to see him like my daughter's QH as for shape, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw him in person. I will update with better pics when I go back for the ride.....

Ok ok on to the pics.

Looks like they are going to rain us out here at work because the storm that came through this morning dropped so much water that it will take several hours to dry out enough to be productive. I'm going to try and go out there this morning and ride him as well as see about bringing him to the house.

Possibly having pics sooner than previously expected.

That boar used to be one big teddy bear according to the owner, but something turned him about a year ago and now he is aggressive with strangers. Said will even charge her if she doesn't carry a stick in the pasture with her.

Anyways here are a couple of pics we took of him with the girls on him after I road him and could see just how gentle this young fella is.

Please excuse the 3rd world country looking hallway, but it has rained so much here that the ground can't absorb anymore water and it has started running through the barn on it's downhill path to the pond.

He does have hoof issues and the farrier will be here tomorrow at 2:30pm. I'm hoping it's not as bad as I suspect, but as usual I am expecting the worst and hoping for somewhere in the middle as It can't be the best with what I saw when I dug out the hooves. We won't be riding him any more til we get his feet in good shape. He seems to really take to kids as he went straight to my daughter in the first pic when the lady lead him out of the paddock. Never raised his head and follow her around as if she had been working with him all his life.

Farrier came out yesterday and took care of his feet. I was extremely happy when I got home and saw them, but also expected the other news of him having thrush. We started treating it and hope to have it healed soon.

He is off duty for a few days to get over the tenderness from the trimming and then its time to start working him to get that muscle built back up.

This isn't a great picture but was all I thought to get before heading back to the house for supper.
This is Levi, the young man from church that is coming out a couple times a week to see if horse life is something that suits him...
