New to Adding Supplements...need ideas
My BO does the feeds and if you want to supplement your horse its a do it yourself thing. I am doing to start giving my boy a prebiotic supplement.
One scoop once a day to start. What are some good ways to get this into him?
He's not IR; but eats his hay really slowly. He's also a hard keeper.
Best thing for award keeper in my opinion is a slow hay feeders, lots of room to move around. If your doing grain, maybe some soaked alfalfa pellets with beet pulp...iv only suplimented Vitimins and ulcer treatmeant...I like the hymalyan (spelling) salt blocks too
It is both a Pre-probiotic.
Where I live the grass is really coming on green. Unlike my metabolic Walking Horses, my Arab benefits greatly from the rich green grass but it gives him the runny bums.
So far, since he's been on the Daily Start, his little bum is as dry as it is in the winter.
He is 13.3H/840 lbs, the other horse is 16.1H/`1,100 lbs; I feed both of them one of the enclosed scoops daily.
One scoop is sufficent for the little Arab but I suspect I may have to increase the TWH to two scoops daily - which the directions say I can do.
It is in powder form, I mix it with wet timothy pellets for both horses and they eat it without issue:-)
I buy a three pound bag. I haven't dated it but I know it lasts me at least two months, feeding one scoop daily to two horses:-)
Are you sure your horse doesn't have ulcers? My Arab's ulcers flare up in the late Fall<--after the green grass disappears. Then he starts losing weight. Once I start him on 30 days of Omeprazole for his ulcers, he picks his weight back up.
Some of my barn mates are supplementing adding chopped apples and carrots to their supplement powders. I was just wondering what other ways to do this, not that I am against it. We aren't feeding beet pulp to any other horses. I am new to nutrition and feeds. My horse is on step 6 senior and high protein hay IDK from where...I think washington state.
