Horse training

hi. My friend bought a 3 year old registered haflinger. He has had no training except leading into the barn and standing in a stand stall. He's never even been brushed before. He is being backed next spring. This is my friends first horse and i would please like your opinion on how to train him as he is very intelligent.

He needs to either check out some local trainers or some of the DVD ones you can purchase.
Personally I like Clinton Anderson's stuff. I have pretty much used his methods to get my young horses to the point of saddle breaking.
I've only had 3 babys, but every one is fairly well mannered and I think will be a snap to saddle break.

i would pick a local trainer to help with the first few rides.

As to what the horse should be trained for, it really depends on how it's built/ what it would be good at :-)
