Arabian or National Show Horse or something else?
What breed do you think she is?
This is a very (I'm sorry) DUMB rescue mare that I am working with. Everything is a big deal in her world. I know EXACTLY how this mare ended up in resuces in three different states and managed to arrive from a rescue, to me, still very thin! Today we worked on the same exact thing that we've worked on for a week now and its taken the same exact two hours to send the message. The message is simple really. Drop your head from pressure, move away from pressure, people frown upon being ran clean over, people frown upon you evading the question by running the opposite way and thus yanking the lead out of our hands, whoa and flex. She is a hot mess. It makes a girl wonder what this horses life must have been. She appears to have had a foal or two and required stitching. She parks out when asked although shes terrified of whips and fast moving arms. Or moving arms. Or moving. She rides fairly well given the "awesomeness" on the ground. She rides very behind the vertical like she is assuming the yanked head frame position. Sigh.
Anyway, that rant that doesn't make an ounce of difference to this question aside, what does she look like to you? 15.1hh/850# currently...
This is when she came in:
And now 16 days later:
One more from a few days ago:
She looks pretty, but sad... and I would not ride a horse in such condition...
keep the ground work going, she will come around
Could be purebred, but the ears and the neck lead me more to NSH
Poor girl. She does look sad. She needs way more than just feed. ....
Looks more like NSH. If you know any info on what state she originally came from or who her owners were, you can have someone that has access to Datasource to do some digging and try to find her on there.
Sounds like she has had typical bad training for show horses (Whipping, shanking, and all around terrifying the animals into doing what they want.) I would bet that she is registered. You don't bother show training a grade horse.
Poor girl. I bet that a few months down the line when she has a chance to unwind from the crap training she has had, you will have a very different horse on your hands.
You say she parks out when you ask, is it more like a Saddlebred park out, or Arabian style?
The rescue that I took her from was thinking that she was an Arabian but my thoughts were NSH as well. I would also bet that she is registered. I am not sure which state she came from.
She is a sad mare & yes, I think that feed is one of the least of her worries although she is very appreciative for the increase in that that she has received here. She has a lot of a story that is for sure. Thats one thing about your average "horse rescue", a horse like her will continue to bounce around because "lack of feed" isn't the issue.
Right now I am not asking her for a lot but I am demanding respect and that she learn to give to pressure right off the bat. She'll run over anyone, though anything or just bolt off if you ask her something that she doesn't want to do (IE back up...) Also, we haven't ridden her yet as she is not mentally ready - this was at the rescue and I got a good idea of how she rides from that.
Another vote for NSH.
My old gelding was NSH/Arab (so 3/4 Arab and 1/4 saddlebred) and he looked A LOT like this girl...just shorter (he was 14.2hh on his tip toes lol).
