Hamster question
Hello everybody!
Please can you tell me if there are any DWARF hamsters which are good for first time pets and handling? Also, We have children aged 7 and8

Dwarf hamsters aren't recommended for youngsters because they're the spawn of Satan. They're not friendly, and don't like to be held.

If you want a good pet for your children, get a guinea pig. They like to be held, and are very gentle.

honestly Dwarfs tend to be not so friendly "rare to find one that is" we have had dwarfs and regular and even rats.. and out of all 3 the Rats tend to be the most friendly and some what trainable.
If you are going to get a Dwarf though a Russian Dwarf would be on the less mean side.

I don't recommend hamsters either. Guinea pigs are good, and rats make great pets too.

Dwarf hamsters are the spawn of satan as already mentioned.

If you want something little rats are great and gerbils tend to be super friendly and love to be handled.

Guinea pigs are awesome pets. I LOVE guinea pigs. If I didn't end up rescuing my bunny from a mental case animal hoarder I was going to get a guinea pig. I am now maxed out on animals before my SO calls me a hoarder lol.

Guinea Pigs are great, I had 4 growing up. Hamsters - not so great!

We bought Momma Pig (named Carmel), My brother and I saved up our allowance to buy her and a cage, food, etc. Well my Mom looked at her and decided we were "feeding her to much", after convincing my Mom we are feed the certain amount a day, my Mom flipped her over and sure enough, preggo piggy!!
Pet store wouldn't take the babies back, so we kept them all, 3 boys were my brothers ( Cream, Toffee & Chocolate ) don't ask about the food names?? LOL. And Carmel was mine. Cutest babies btw - they are born perfectly!!

We had them for 9 years! They were so nice, didn't bite once, instead, they would lick!! Very much "pocket pets", I could take them places with me, bring them outside to eat grass and play. Would love to have more piggy's again one day!

I have to say we have had two dwarf hamsters and both very friendly but our last, RIP Violet was so friendly that whenever you walked my her cage she ran to the top of cage of her hamster mansion and hung on the cage door. She wanted you to get her out and to be held and loved on. Loved her very much... haven't been able to buy another since :(

I agree with the other posters, guinea pigs are much better "first" pets. Hamster are nocternal and like to be up at night, so the kids seem to get bored quickly when they are always sleeping. I tried the hamster deal with my oldest son, and it quickly became a "boring" pet, not to mention he couldn't cuddle it. Now, my sister had white rats and they were loving too and way more active then hamsters. Besides, hamsters seem to be escape artists!!! I can't tell you how many times the little bugger got out. That is what ultimately caused his demise I fear cause once he got out and we never did find him. 10 years later, I swear I still see mice who seem furrier then normal......

My brother had a hamster when we were kids and it escaped one night. I woke up in the middle of the night to that creature crawling around in my bed!!

Kind of a moot point now, since the OP's been banned. Don't know for what, but probably an already banned poster trying to creep in under another user name.
