So I don't know what's wrong.
Every time i see a big jump i get scared and i never do it but i would be thinking about it all day but when it comes to it i just can't do it. Does anyone know how to raise my confidence so i can moove on to 3'0 3'3 jumps without being chicken?:D
I'm the same sometimes.. all I do, legs on, heels down look ahead and don't think about the size of the jump, think about getting over it!
I don't know if this will help... but I was having similar problems. I'd literally(!) hit a barrier.
My instructor had me do a course of jumps or grid work at a height at which I was comfortable. Then she raised one jump a fraction. I know it sounds daft, but psycologically, it was the same course.
It was particularly effective when doing stride work on grids.. i was concentrating so hard on the correct take-off etc, that I hardly noticed the height.
Best of Luck!
When I get that way I have to stop jumping for a week or so...just get out on the trails and get the jumps out of my head.
Jeddah's advice was good, but also, figure out what kind of jump you like to jump best (or feel most comfortable doing) like verticals, oxers, fans, cross rails, etc, and play around with its height. I, for example, find that I have more confidence in jumping things that look (or are actually) solid. I don't think twice about jumping 3'6 in the cross country field, but in the ring the other day there was 2' vertical and I actually avoided it for the first twenty minutes of riding until I literally forced myself to take it to prove to myself that I wasn't intimidated by it. xDD
would totally do it in a heartbeat
