Buffalo River Gals
Hers's a link to an article in the local paper of my hometown. There's a small group of elderly ladies that ride on the Buffalo River (the Buffalo River Gals). I had the honor of riding with them a few years ago, and I had a hard time keeping up on my stock horse! They are sassy and tough. Just thought I'd share!
Harrison Daily Times - Harrison, Arkansas - Neighbor Newspapers > News > Woman rides 10,000 miles
Wow, 1,000 miles? :D Awesome! Thanks for sharing, that looks cool.
OMGOSH!!! I've met the older woman with the Denim skirt on!!!!!!!
And that is one of my FAVORITE tack shops in the background!!!!!!!
I met the woman, Dangit, I can't remember her name  While we were camping at the Buffalo River. We were actually down at the river and letting our kids swim while I rinsed off the breakfast dishes and her and another woman came sneaking up on us, I heard a snort and KNEW it was a horse I turned around and BAM, they were right behind us!!!
We chatted for a little while and these women...OMGOSH...took their horses across the river in a place where I don't even like to walk, then bounded up the other side like it was nothing at all!!!!!
It was absolutely INCREDIBLE to see these women out and riding like they were...NOT EASY trails by any stretch of the imagination!!!!
Thanks for sharing!!! It would be an honor indeed to ride with them!!!
Those gals are my age, so I am really glad to see link and the picture:D
The ladies in that picture ride like I do except I still don't use a saddle. No helmet, a comfortable/relaxed appearance on the horse and one hand on the reins ---- the old cowboy way.
What a huge huge difference between "then" and "now" in terms of learning to ride.
I am sorry if I offend anyone, but how on earth does one stay on the horse when they've got a rein in each hand (and most often too high), and sitting "broom handle" straight-up in the saddle? I understand that for the show ring, but how do folks manage out on the rough trails like that?
Boy I'd hook up with those ladies anytime to go trail riding:razz:
Enjoyed the article. Thanks for posting it.
Makes me want to take a trip to the buffalo. We've fished it but never rode it. Gotta give it a try :D
