my horse has ringbone Ringbone :(
My vet has told me that my horse has ringbone. He felt around his ankle and said there was thicking of bone. I have noticed that my horse has been off for about a month but when i ride, bute usually clears that up. When i dont give him bute and i ride, he is always willing to walk trot and canter and he dosent really seemed to phased by the ringbone even if he is limping some. He is so willing to canter and even with the slightes cue he goes into it ( no he is not frustrated or angry just loves to canter). When he is in his stall for a whole day and not turned out, he usually limps some at the walk, but when he has been turned out all day he dose not limp at all at the walk but off in the trot. Also, when it rains or there is high humidity, i can could on him being a little stiff and off. He is barefoot and is doing very well being that way. I absolutely do not want to put a shoe on him ever again so saying to me to put him in eggbar shoes wouldn’t go over well with me ☺. I have him on B-L pellets now, for the past 5 days. And I have just ordered a supplement with genours amounts of Glucosimine, MSM, and 200mg of HA. How do you think this will do for him? What else could I do to make him be sound again or sound enough? Is it ok that I ride at the Walk trot and canter?:???:
I agree with keeping him out of shoes, of course. Shoes won't help the bones -- only reduce the amount of cushioning every time his feet land. And keep him turned out as much as possible.
My walker has ringbone. He actually got worse before he got better (he has a really bad case and he's very old so he has a lot of age related issues). Keeping him moving was really helpful and then I tried to put him on aspereaze but he didnt like it and refused to eat it. I had him on glucosomine for a while but I think that helped his joints more then anything. My farrier changed the way he trims his feet, but never suggested shoes.
I don't really have a bunch of advice to offer, but just wanted to wish you luck.
