Picking up the right lead
Yes, yet again I have another training question lol.
So basically like the title says "Picking up the right lead" is what I'm trying to achieve. My gelding picks up the left lead every time and a good percent of the time picks up the right lead going around a barrel to the right, which is what I want obviously. But I can never get him to pick up his right lead any other time I ask him to, like going in a circle to the right or in a straight line etc. I've tried pushing his hip to the right, pushing his shoulders to the left, turning his head slightly to the left, picking up the right rein so he'll pick up his shoulder, putting slightly pressure with my spur to get him to pick up his right shoulder loping him to see if he picks it up n his own and bringing him back down to a trot if he doesn't. Nadda, nix, close but no cigar, a hand full of times I've gotten him to pick it up on a right circle but he automatically goes back to his left lead. I work him more to the right now to strengthen that side to see if he starts picking up on it easier but still nothing, I've checked for soundness issues, stretched him before and after exercise, given ample warm up time etc.
I am out of ideas and all I have to say now is... HELP! S.O.S! lol
Is it possible that my horse just can't pick up a right lead? Or am I a completely incompatent rider/trainer? lol
