Distracted Driving Laws
I'm having this discussion with my mother about whether the US has the distracted driving laws that Canada does - no cell phones, ipads, ipods, GPS, eating, make up, changing, reading, etc - behind the wheel.

So, for all you Americans, does your state have distracted driving laws?

Not sure as far as food, make up, and things of that sort go... But absolutely no texting or talking on the phone where I live (unless a bluetooth). It's fairly recent, 2 or 3 years old.

They have laws against hand held cell phones and texting while driving in Connecticut, but it has no teeth since it almost never gets enforced. I really wish they would just make cell phones that did not function when going over a certain speed. There are far too many people incapable of obeying the laws at least in my area. I'm tired of having to worry about my safety because somebody else cannot exercise self control.

In Ohio, we recently instituted a ban on texting while driving. For kids under 18 (I believe....might be 21) it's a first offense, and you can be pulled over and ticketed for it. If you're over eighteen it's a second offense, so you need to be breaking the law in some other way to be pulled over for texting.

No regulations against food or make-up.

here i think you cant talk on your cell phone while holding it, which is very new. and you cant text, but you can read email or use a GPS....makes a whole lot of sense right ?

Texting and Driving Laws vary by State, but more and more are adding the Law every year.

Texting while Driving should be a Week in Jail upon conviction, imo

In the UK using a hand held cell phone whist driving - you can get adapters that plug in and activate the phone by voice command.

I just do not answer my phone if I am driving. I managed to live for 60 years without cell phone and refuse to be a slave to it!

I have m phone set to send a text message to the caller stating that I'm driving and will call back at the first available time. If it happens to be a land line then I'll get a message back stating it didn't go through.

hodge podge of different laws, ZERO enforcement. Until AFTER someone gets hurt or killed, then they look at your cell phone.

They have the laws in place here, but as others have stated they aren't enforced. Shoot if you look often enough you will see the LEO with the cell phone to the ear while driving.
