My dearly beloved old clippers have stopped working.
I trim bridle paths and goat udders - nothing major. Every cordless clipper I have purchased hasn't worked well at all, so I'd prefer something with a cord I think.
Not looking real pricey but, what do you use and what would you suggest?
Give ya a few suggestions!
Andis AGC Single-Speed Pet Grooming Clipper | PetEdge.com
We dont usually buy these since they are single speed, but they are great and are veryyy comfy in hand. I've had a pair like them that was the 2 speed model.
Andis Plus+ AG 2-Speed Pet Grooming Clipper | PetEdge.com
These are our FAVORITE at work, they are light weight, comfortable in hand, and they last us quite awhile and we shave 5-10dogs a day each with them...They are a little more pricey but I bet they will last you forever for what your doing. I probably wouldnt recommend doing full body trims with them unless you can take time and let them cool off maybe after one side haha.
Wahl Arco SE Limited Edition Cordless Clippers | PetEdge.com
I swear these used to be cheaper....but they are smaller and cordless...I know you said you didnt want cordless but we have a pair of these that we use on the big dogs we do on the floor for their pads lol...they work GREAT. We've even dropped them tons of times, the blade maybe falls off or battery comes out but they last us a few years usually.
If you want something cheaper, I'd say probably try something Andis brand. I do love Oster but Andis just seems to usually be lighter and more comfy in hand. I've never been a huge fan of wahls besides the little cordless clippers I linked...
Andis Easy Clip Clipper Kit | PetEdge.com
those dont look too bad, and comes with a 10 blade, and if it dulls you could just buy a new 10 blade for 15-20 bucks or send it to get sharpened.
Ehh I don't really see any little ones I like too much, they just look cheap or dumb with the little mini blades...If you can afford to I'd just spend the money on one of the nicer pairs and have a pair that lasts you years and years lol
I am partial to the Oster Golden A5 two speed.
Oster Golden A5 2-Speed Clipper Oster (Grooming - Clippers - A5 Type)
I bought some used off of Ebay for about $65, if I remember right. Every show barn I worked for used these.
the oster's do last forever, we use them too. I've just never been fond on how heavy they are and how hot they get :( I can't imagine shaving a whole horse with them after how hot they get just when shaving poodles feet LOL I got this pretty nice pair of clippers for body clips on sale, I'll have to double check what they are...I think Andis? I forget but for their size I was surprised with how light they were
These are super cheap but last forever. I use them for ears/whiskers/fetlocks/bridle paths on a weekly basis. I even body clipped a miniature with them once; just had to order a new $18 blade when I was done. The blades adjust to any increment between #10 and #30. My only qualm is that the cord is really short, so I need to use an extension cord with them.
Show Pro Plus Clippers - Horse Clippers from SmartPak Equine
The new oster's like Cowchick posted, don't get that hot but I agree they used to, more kool lube, more, more! I bought a pair 2 years ago, they run cooler now, as I bodyclipped a horse in one session, they got warm, that's it.
I do have the older ones, and your right they can get warm after clipping faces, bridle paths and legs. I have plenty of Kool Lube!!! LOL!
But they do last, and I suggested them because the OP said she was just doing bridle paths and goat udders, not body clipping, so I figured she might be able to get some newer, used ones for a decent price :)
Also they use A5's, detachable blades, so dang handy and easy to clean.
