percheron dieting

I have had my percheron on a diet for the past couple months. It has been tricky since she is an easy keeper with EPSM. I am not real good at judging body condition and need your help determining in whether or not there is any improvement.

First picture is in Jan and the second picture was last week. Thanks so much.

I think she looks slimmer and in better shape. More sleek now. Gotta love a big black horse!!!

Really??? Oh thank goodness. I hope it's just not losing her winter woolies though.:D

If you look at the crest of the neck and also the butt crease in the top, its not there in the bottom. All over I see it, more stout and stalky in first pic, more sleek in second. Good job!

To add: look at the withers now. You can totally see it!

Yay! Happy dance! :happydance:

It's so hard for me to tell sometimes since she is such a big girl anyway. The neck crest thing always worries me, but I've also been told she may always have that no matter how fit she is. Thanks again!

Oh no, do not let that worry you. From what I understand is that drafts will always have a bit of that. It's who they are! And your welcome!!

if she looses that neck, she would need to be skin and bones , and then it would still be there a little. Drafts have the big cresty necks . She looks better.
I have 3 mixes that need a diet, they are way too fat . Does not take much to get them roly poly .. One thing to watch for in your drafts is lymph disease shows as swollen stocked up hind legs, more in Belgians I think, and liver disease which starts as being off feed belly ache mild colic type of thing. no cure for liver disease, we lost the belgian to this .

It is funny you should talk about swollen stocked up hind legs! Belle had two episodes a few months ago, within about a month of eachother. Her rt hind fetlock was very swollen and she was lame on it. No sign of injury and they both happend overnight. I figured she had slipped and twisted it since it rained the first time. She was lame a day or two and then the swelling went down slowly after a few more days. Nothing since now. What do I do to prevent it? She has never really had any leg lesions though.
