Do you see improvemnt with his topline muscle devolpment?
Here are two pictures, first one being from mid septmber 2012 right befroe I left for a month in Europe and the picture was taken the first day of our two day dressage clinic when he was getting worked 3-4 days a week and the second being from this last saturday. Dot mind the recent picture...he was VERY SWEATY from our jumping :shock:
Ollie is a TB/Dutch cross and he is getting ridden 4-5 days a week. Only at training level currently and just started him back over fences about two weeks ago and each jump day we work from trot poles up and have been doing grids and just started working on jumping on the diagonal so getting striding and rythim really down with both jump exersies. between jumps trantions and or leg yeilds or shallow loops.
We have also been going on a working trail ride about once a week, hills and again TRANSITIONS GALORE:D
First show is in 12 days. we will be riding training level test 2 twice and doing two jump classes 2' and 2'3
Really hoping you can see imporvemnt cause we have been working pretty darn hard not just him but on my body to help him and I go further along!
He has a lot of upside down muscle as opposed to that first picture, which means he's most likely bracing against you, side reins, or maybe even a martingale or something. Otherwise I can't really tell since he had a saddle on in the first picture.
I think the two pictures and the angles arnt the best so that may be part of it. Yes he has an upsode down neck...but its for sure not as bad as it was and sadly cant be changed in a nights time lol

As far as any martingales or side reins go I dont think that will do a whole lot of good cause I dont use those in shows and dont want a quick fix.... Ollie would freak out if I put him in a martingale....lol
No, I'm not telling you to use standing martingales or side reins- I mentioned that if you were using either of those at all they might be part of the reason ^_^ sorry for not being clear. If you arent using them, good for you. Work on getting him to work with the bit, not against it.

The proccess of teaching the true contact has been enteraining to say the least! My last trainer didnt think it was worth teaching him...just pop over every jump...thus one reason why we left :)
I have been bracing agaisnt him and so we have been working on loosening own body up and its been going much smoother and he is getting there!
also he was dead tired zombie horse in this recent picture...not shown in working frame....lol
I agree with the muscling on the underside of his neck and how to fix it, "long and low" is your friend! It is hard to tell from the angle but it looks like his hind end might be a little bit more round and filled out (yay!) in the second picture.

I can see what looks like more strength through his loin... Now I'd say get him moving long and low, every ride, and really reaching forward to the bit (rather than trying to rein him back to be on the bit) to improve his upsidedown neck muscling.
