Looking at a western saddle pad

I found this on ebay:

Is this a good deal? if so, what would be the highest I should expect to go and still get a good deal considering it's used condition.

I am unsure of this particular brand. So I'm no help there. This is by far my favorite saddle pad, especially if you have trouble saddle fitting. It's got pockets and felt shims that you can add or subtract to guarantee a near perfect saddle fit, and it's brand new and cheaper than the one you're looking at. Roughly $86 if I recall?

Diamond Wool Pads - Products - Pressure Relief Pads

They also have another one similar to this that's contoured. It's a little extra money, but if your going for contoured this may also be a great bet.

Hope this helps.

Yes, this is a great deal-IF you can use a barrel pad. These sell for about $200. Unless you have a short skirt on your saddle, it may not work. The regular pads they make are about 2" longer. 5 Star are the finest quality 100% wool, and they are amazingly soft.....I will have nothing else.

I have no question about the fit. I have this saddle with the arabian tree.

I believe it's full length is 25-26". I've had a devil of a time trying to find a decent quality pad to fit my very short-backed arabian.

What should be the highest that I should go on the pad since it's used? I have no idea about it resale value. $130? $150? $175?

I think that is entirely up to you. Bidding is an individual thing. THese DO hold their value pretty well. If you want to get an idea of what they have been selling for-go to eBay and do a basic search for "5 star pad". Then focus on the ones in "outdoor sports, then refine by "equestrian". Then-refine by showing "completed listings only". This will tell you exactly what folks have been paying. I saw a bit of a range for this style pad, starting at around $150. Good luck!

Thanks for the info!

If that pad were still available (the burgundy has been discontinued), it would currently retail for $225 + shipping. I would sell it w/our current sale for $205, including shipping. They do hold their value VERY well - I have seen some pretty used ones still sell for good prices. So it's up to you how high you want to go, but my above prices give you an idea of what a black or brown one in that size would sell for new so you have a comparison. You can't beat a 5 Star! Soooo much higher compression/concussion rating than the needled wool pads (Wades & Diamond wool).

seamom, I'm going nuts trying to find a saddle to fit my twh. None of the makers post pics of the front so we can see the angle of the bars. Would you be so kind and post one? Thank you.
