Missouri Fox Trotters and dressage
Anyone have any experience with MFTs? I got a lead on one today...I am looking for a Dressage prospect, but I am wondering if they can properly perform the moves and compete against TB's, WB's etc...
Please educate me in this department as I have no experience with these gaited guys :)
Dressage requires that they trot - if you can find a MFT that can trot, go for it.
If you were looking for something that "can do it all", I'd actually look for a 5 gaited saddlebred...saddlebreds are very competitive in the dressage circuit. :-)
One added bonus about saddlebreds is that they are conformationly more adapt for true collection. And many of them have slick trots so sitting the trot will not be difficult for long.
I have a MFT and he can trot but it's not good for a gaited horse to trot...(Atleast not TWH or MFT) They also have a MAJOR head bob thing going on with their gait. They have to do it and there really isn't any changing it. I love my MFT and would NEVER trade him, but don't feel like that would be a good fit for one....I could be wrong though!
I think the Saddlebred idea is an excellent one. They are so elegant and smooth!
