So after another month of his ear continuing to puss and look nasty and little improvement even with us doing the medicine and cleaning it out daily I had to get the vet back out. So I get him out today and had him open it up again. So as soon as he makes the bottom hole and pokes in this nasty yoke lookin thing comes out and as we got farther along he couldnt find anything to be causing it to continue to pus. So we are hoping it was in the glob that fell out or if it comes back we have a more serious problem . Only had him a month and the poor guy is so good considering his ear was so bad.
I hope he heals now.
What she said.^^
Mind if I ask what happened to it? We just had our foster filly tear her ear almost completely off, so I'm interested. Pictures maybe? I hope he gets feeling better!
Endiku- I bought him in feb as a barrel prospect / feel bad "rescue" he was over weight, bad feet, yucky coat, and had a golf ball size pussing pocket that the lady who originally bought him a month before had not had a veg out to treat. So the day I bought him I had a vet come out and he put a hole on top and a hole on the bottom and drained him. He gave us a tube of antibiotics to squeeze in it once a day and it should have cleared up. Well it didnt so a month later he needed to come back and i wanted it opened up this time. At this point my trainer said today it was pussing and she squeezed some nasty stuff out today so I am not sure we got the problem. It is at the base of his ear not the top like your little girl though those pictures were heart breaking. So I am now wanting to move him on to a new home but this ear is holding us back, I can still bridle and ride him no issues but will now hopefully not be set back with him allowing me to mess with the sore ear.
I will try and get pictures tomorrow when I go out to feed and clean him up. There is an older picture of the first vet visit in his album thought
I'd sqeeze it everyday to try to get that infection out too. Which you may already be doing. I wonder what the heck it is?!?! Sounds nasty and probably stinky, lol... But I hope the poor guys heals up too and QUICKLY! Good girl getting that vet out there! Is it going in his ear canal? If it's not maybe packing it to make sure is heals from the inside out. And the hole on the outside doesnt close before the infection drains and heals. I'm sure it's nasty, but a picture would be great. I'm just curious about it too. If it wasnt in his ear CANAL, I'd probably rinse it out everyday too. But I'm sure you do that with already too. maybe. If not maybe ask the vet if you can. I wouldnt want to get water inhis ear canal though. I'm just ramb;ling now. I do that alot. Just hoping he gets better, and adding anything I could think of! Prayers to you both!
It is right on the base by the ear canal and he flips his head so rinsing is difficult but we do squeeze it out and are putting antibiotic cream stuff inside. We will be getting him a fly mask with ears and continuing to clean it out. We are hoping it isn't a tiny cyst that was hiding. I will get pictures tonight though for you guys.
Okthere a pain. One of the horses here has what they vet calls a cyst. It is almost almost always there in the summer, and the vet has to lance it to open it up. It's like an infected pore or something, and putting antibiotic on the opening doesnt help until the cut it open more. It's ALWAYS in the same spot on his neck near his mane.
Yeah we are hoping that isnt the case because I dont want to have to put him through anymore. I really want to get him healed so he can be out of pain and really start improving. Even with this he is so smart and is improving so Id live to see how he'd be without it.
UNDERSTOOD! I'm actually planning on calling a vet if mine gets infected again. There is always a knot there. I'm thinking they should sedate him and lance it and really clean it and maybe remove some tissue.
Depending on how and where this infection is, would that maybe help him at all? Does it maybe have a pocket in there?
