My rant...and whining... bring cheese...

My mother in law used to be so nice and close to me. She used to stand up for me UNTIL I had my son. Now it seems like nothing I do makes her proud. I admire the woman, and it really hurts.

When I first got them at 4 months old, you could not approach them. They would run away. They were not handled. Within a week of getting them I had them halter broke, and leading decent, AND would even follow me without the lead. I had a friend that trained her own horse and a few others come over one day and show me what to do with my mare to get her broke. She spent the day out there, telling me how to do it, showing me, having me try it, correcting me. Then for a few weeks after that I kept that up until, I was finally riding her on a trail. I had been thrown off, bucked off, stepped on, and ran into, BUT!!! I had broke my horse almost completely by myself, with the guidance of a woman who has become my best friend. The following year I broke my gelding, who was a rearer. I had a trainer come out, and show me a few techniques (these r people who know I am willing to do the work, so they help me for FREE!). He spent one hour, that is all. So both my horses are broken, with only a little help from trainers. And ALOT ALOT of hardwork and dedication on my part. I am very proud of that!

I even had that friend offer to break her geldings for $100, until she saw how they acted to me, then she said she couldnt. She told me she wouldnt. I have done so much and would love a pat on the back, but nothing... I have helped with her horses, but she never keeps up on training, and I cannot keep up with ALL the horses. I dont know if she is mad about that, or what. My friend thinks they were jealous. And then they went out and bought another horse when I broke my horse. Actually three more horses came onto the property that were broken. One was such a buffalo that she was rode once and scared them (altho they wont admit it) so bad they havent rode her in the two years since they got her. The other gets rode occasionally and belongs to another family member. The thrid is my mother in laws. He is 12 yrs old and at one time the previous owner could shoot a rifle off his back.... AND NOW they act like my horses are some kind of crazy horrible animals and I'm a horrible rider who cant stay on....

It really hurts my feelings! Yea I fall off! BUT I usually dont get hurt when I fall off! AND SECONDLY my horses are only 5 yrs old ( I didn break them until they were 3 and 4! They are young! They need experience! They arent bad! They are actually very very well behaved when considering their age! My gelding has NEVER bucked me! And any time I accidently fall off my mare, she waits for me! And I fall off bc I push myself and my riding! Not bc I suck! :( Why do I let it get to my head?!!?!?

I just wish I was supported more.... :(

What do the horses have to do with your mother in law?

That rant bounced around too much to stay coherent. From the writings it seems you are a young mother who's relationship has withdrawn with your husband's mother once you provided her with a grandson. Does she not want a grandson?

What does that have to do with your inability to stay on your mare? I suggest you only ride the gelding until you put a better finish on the mare with a lot more ground work for her and yourself. Get a trainer back out there to help you.

Stick with this saying and everything else will ease up. It's one thing to let a person get your goat, it's another to let them know they got your goat.

I'll give you a little time to think that one over if you don't understand it. If it doesn't click then I'll explain it a little better. It took my kids a while to understand what it meant, but when they got it,they got it!

Colour me confused... http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-fc/dunno.gif I have no idea what is going on. You halter broke your son and you fell off him and now your MIL doesn't like you? :???:

Um, What?

No I seriously think she halter broke her son. That is how it reads. Though there may be two sons as she said she got them when they were four months old and you couldn't get near them...
