**URGENT** - Rider Class
Okayyyy so this is URGENT.
I dont know really if this topic should be under this but ohh well.
Tomorrow i have a points day at my pony club and we have rider class.
And to me this is just one event that i have to place in.
I just have to.
And we all look and ride the same - so is there anything that would make the judge look at me more and make me stand out? What i should try and do when i do a workout? Any help - anything at all is much appreciated!
Don't stress, you'll be fine. Make sure that you dont get in a "clump," rather you be by yourself. Don't cut others off, as it will look like you arent a good sport. Good luck, and i'm sure you'll do fine!!!
Don't show off, just ride your best. Showing off will turn a judge off of you.
Don't cut other riders off, be aware of your surroundings.
Don't talk to your horse.
Do smile, make your ride look fun (even if it isn't - your job as a rider is to make the horse look like the best, easiest to ride horse out there!)
Do keep yourself and your horse in an area that's uncrowded. A judge is more likely to notice you if you're not stuck in a clump of horses.
Do keep calm and cool if your horse acts up. I've had a horse buck in a class before (right in front of the judge) and he liked how I handled the situation, and I got first in that class.
Most of all, if you don't place, thank the people involved anyways. Clap for the other riders and congratulate the winner.
thats perfect advice!!! thats how i was taught!
I was always taught that when you are going into the ring to canter out in front of everyone as though you are the very best and know you will win. Keep to your own space so you deffinatly get noticed and if your good at it volentarily show of your sitting trot.
No no no no no.. don't do a sitting trot unless you're asked for it.. that's an immediate disqualification, if you're doing something that is not asked for in the class.
As for the canter thing... just keep to your own space. Don't go so fast you're lapping people, don't go so slow that you're being lapped. Keep a few strides in between you and the horse in front of and behind you... do NOT circle the judge a billion times - cutting across the arena to find a better spot is fine, but MAKING the judge look at you because you're nearly nocking him over will not put you in his good books.
CONFIDENCE CONFIDENCE AND MORE CONFIDENCE- not snotty show offyness but confidence in yourself as a person and in your mount. Show your stuff in a polite and once again confident manner-judge will see it (found that out the hard way)
Where I live you're asked to enter the ring at a (walk or trot) and you're expected to stay at that gait until otherwise directed
and where I live I've seen it done both ways
