Your opinion on Synthetic saddles?
I for one LOVE them! I own one and it's the only one I use...Then again it's hard for me to use leather ones. Anyways, I love mine because I had a broken tailbone before, and it still hurts pretty bad to use other saddles, so I find this one much easier to use...Plus it's VERY light (actually lighter than my english saddle), and I'm probably the weakest person in the world, haha. Anyone else own one? What are your opinions on them?

I've only ridden in one twice. First time couldn't even be called a ride. My butt hardly touched the seat before the bat-crap crazy mare I was on tossed me over her right shoulder with a rather spectacular rodeo buck. I ended up fracturing my left ankle cuz it tangled in the stirrup as I went over. Second time was my first real ride on my gelding. The saddle was uncomfortable, too small (was marked as a 16", but fit more like a 15") and made my position horrible.

I would never again ride in a synthetic saddle (at least a western one) if I had a choice. I know some people love them and won't ride in anything else, but I'm not one of them.

I like riding in both synthetic and leather, and if I never broke my tailbone I'd probably be using my leather one a lot more!

I'm not a fan of them. I don't like how they look and (my opinion) is that the nicest synthetic will never match the nicest leather saddle. You also can't show in them so that's another downside.

You can't show in them? Never thought of that.

Well I mean they would be fine for a schooling show, but anything higher than that a synthetic would be frowned upon.

I've been riding in Wintec's for the past couple of years and have just bought a Thorowgood T6 Dressage for myself. I love how light and low maintenance they are. I don't love the squeaking, but it's manageable, and my saddle is brand new, so that may go away or I've heard of using baby powder to make it go away. I've shown, mostly dressage and a few other types in synthetic saddles, (and I'm talking about the suede look Wintec Isabel, so no mistaking that for real leather) and never had a problem placing in classes. Frankly, when I'm riding, there isn't that much of the saddle that's actually visible, and I've never had a judge come up and inspect my saddle to see if it was real leather or not. Granted, I'm just showing low level, local stuff, I guess things may be different when you move up.

Ooh. I like the fact that you can ride them in the rain (not that I like to, but if it starts randomly raining) and it won't get damaged, and I think it's easier to cinch up than leather.

My saddle came from Stallion Tack Inc., has anyone ever heard of them?

I like mine, have had it for about 6 years or so. I love it for rainy days and I don't do anything major in it. It fits, but not perfectly and even though it's comfy it doesn't put me in a great position. Its good for my kids as it is light and I only use it for light riding. I have my crates that I love, fits great and comfy.
