Hanoverian Neck Brand (Please help!)
I recently noticed a 3 digit number brand on the neck of the horse I lease. It looks like 462 or possibly 662 but it is hard to tell. I have been told he is a Hanoverian imported from Germany, and around 11-13 years old. Weirdly, I have yet to find the hanoverian brand on his hip, though he does have a dark spot there (He is chestnut), which could possibly be an old brand...? Does anyone know what this neck brand means or how it can help me figure out anything about his bloodlines? I always thought it was just awkward neck bumps before until I really paid attention to it.

hey there! I know alot of people lately who have been freeze branding or branding there own horses to help prevent theft. I believe you can actually make your own brand up of numbers or letters, even designs. The neck is a typical place to do that because its in a good location to see which helps deture anybody looking to steal a horse. A brand will help make the horse identifiable :) hope that helps

If he's branded in the neck, he HAS to have the H on the butt, too. Can you clip the spot you think is a brand? Pics?

Yep, a registered Hanoverian has to have the 'H' on its hip. Have you seen his papers?
