- - Storing Flax

Hi What is the best way to store flax? I have always only bought it in large size baggies but the feed store has stopped packaging it like that and now only sells it in 50 lb bags. It is whole flax not ground. Will it just keep in my grain bin or should it be frozen or something? How long will it keep if just stored like regular feed? I only use about a cup a day for my horses so a 50 lb bag is going to last forever.

Whole flax will last a year. It has a very hard outer shell. Just keep it stored so bugs and mice don't get into it (the barn is fine if it doesn't get miserably hot and humid in there). Just grind as you go.

Thank You that is exactly what I needed to know.

I use an airtight vittlevault container. A 50 lb bag of flax seed fits in their "35 lb" size, bc it's a rather worthless measure taken to mean 35lbs of dog food.
