My mother in law wants to purchase me a set of clippers for christmas. Which I think is fantastic! I want to get a nice set of cordless, but I am unsure of the brand. I have used Wahl, but I am sure there is other ones out there that maybe a better brand, or have a longer battery life. Please let me know what suggestions you may have.
What is your price range/use for them? The cheaper pair I have are the Wahl Pro Series (which come in cool colors :-)). They're great for the price. I've had them for years. They're perfect for the occasional light clipping: whiskers, ears, fetlocks, and bridlepaths. Lightweight and easy to handle. They're not particularly powerful but they do get the job done, esp if you only have a horse or two. The pair i love are Oster Power Pro Ultras. Much more expensive but very powerful, very fast, quiet, etc. They making trimming a breeze and strong enough to body clip. The battery lasts a lot time but they give you a 2nd just in case it runs out while you're using it.
One of my friends bought a pair of Wahl Arco's and they were horrible. They only lasted a few months and she had to get another pair. I think in general though Wahl and Oster tend to be good brands.
I've always heard Wahl was a great brand. I don't know any other brands, but Wahl has a great reputation!
Oster is a good brand, too - I personally like the ones with the cord though...they can stand up to heavy clipping moreso than cordless ones. :D
sunbeam is my fav brand
Make sure you do some homework and check out the pros and cons before going out and making a list :)
I just came across this thread and may be to late to comment, but I will anyway. I show most every week for about 9 months out of the year. That is a lot of clipping, and a lot of body clipping. I highly recommend Double K clippers, they are not cordless and run around $300 but everything is replaceable if it breaks, has a great warranty, and are super heavy duty.
I second, third, fourth, millionth the Double Ks :) I would NEVER body clip with any other clipper :)
But if you're looking for more light duty, Wahl, Oster, and Laube are all good brands. My personal preference is Wahl. I was a professional dog groomer for 6 years, and my Wahls were my favorite. I had Osters, too. I hated the Laubes, though other groomers swore by them.
Double Ks are the most amazing clippers to ever exist. I can't imagine how people body clip with anything else... But they're probably not necessary if you're just going to doing trims and stuff.
As far as cordless go, I recommend...
I have Wahl Chromado clippers that I really like, they're cord/cordless and really quiet and a charge lasts over an hour when I go cordless. They cost me about $120
