Anything i'm missing?

I have my new horses first show this weekend. Just a small pony club gymkhana, but really want to make him look good. I've already hogged his mane so it will be a good length.

- Trim the hair around his feet/fetlocks
- Trim his whiskers/sticky out ear hair
- Hoof black his feet
- Wash him and condition tail, then showsheen everywhere but saddle
- Baby wipe his afce then i'm going to put a bit of alto-light (make up) on

Can you guys think of anything else I can do to make him look super schmick?

Thanks!

I don't think you need to that much for a gymkhana show. Just a wash and a trim will be just fine.

I know, and normally i'm not big on the presentation thing, trust me, riding mounted games we're always dirty :]

Just because it's his first outing and the first time anyone will see him, I just want to show him off a bit! Proud mumma syndrome, lol, nicest horse i've ever owned conformation/looks wise.

chalk for white socks, plait tail, make sure all your gear is super clean

He has no white, which is a plus!

I'm unsure wether to plait him, as he has a hogged mane. he is an Australian Stock Horse, and they are usually shown with a hogged mane and no plaits in tail/forelock, but this isn't a breed show. Do you think braiding his tail/forelock would look funny with a hogged mane?

Sounds good! Sounds like you're ready; & you're lucky he's not that white hehe that can be a painnnn. :D Good luck!

Not the same breed of course... but over here in the Standardbred ring there's been several horses with a hogged mane, and plaited forelock and tail... I think it looks classy :)

just make sure your braid stays in with all of that running ;-)

for gymkhana around here, i just wash/condition/brush out Boo's tail and go -all natural :-)

Vidaloco 11-13-2008 11:07 AM

No advice, just :D good luck and have fun :D

I think i am just going to go all natural, just cleaned/trimmed/burshed to within an inch fo his life, lol.

Which will be a lot fo work, as I took his rug off to wash it and him and his paddock mates pepper and wildey have decided swimming/rolling in the dam is their game of choice! Muddy ponies!
