"Helpful" Horses
1 Attachment(s)
Today my trainer's TB decided he wanted to be nice to me because last time I worked with him he was naughty. He thought he'd try making it up to me by helping me.... (And by helping I mean hindering...... )

Does anyone else have a "helpful" horse? :D

Yeppers, Fayde loves to help me dump the wheelbarrow...too bad she does it in the middle of the barn aisle if I leave it just a bit too close to her and she can reach it.

My guy was the same way. He would help pick the pasture (I have a pic of him with the pitchfork that I'll have to find), helped me bring out and put away jumps, cleaned up spilt grain, flip on and off the lights, and throw his grain bucket at me when he was done. I usually had him carry things in his mouth and follow me. His oral fixation definitely came in handy.

My QH does "all the above"! haha Talk about oral fixation - she also loves to push the Jet Sled (a must for hauling hay/etc here in winter) with her nose, she mouths/wiggles her lips on pine shaving bags, bucket lids, my coat sleeve, any smooth surface, etc... She also loves to pick up empty buckets/objects and toss them. I laughed when I saw your horse with the rake, because that's a daily with her! I love it, and we have so much fun!! :)

Z will often hold my whip for me for a bit, but then drops it. I wish I could get him to pick it up for me when I drop it, since he is over 17hh, I find it hard to get back on if I dismount to retrieve it.

OMG that pic is hilarious!

One day while I was brushing my horse Hawk he turned his head towards me as if to say:" Your brush is too hard. Let me help you out a bit...". Then, to my surprise he reaches down to his tack box and chooses a softer brush and hands it over to me. He made me smile then laugh when I got the message he was giving. Dumb me!

Mine likes to let me know when the water tub is empty... by dragging it all over the place and thumping, tossing, and banging it.
(This, from a horse who was insulted when I bought him a jolly ball! :? )
Now it's tied to a fence post, but he will turn it upside down and thump it like a drum even when it's not empty.

And he likes to help me with my fashion.
He thinks humans shouldn't wear hats and likes to swipe them off my head.
Yeah, not so cute when it's 15 degrees out.

These all made me literally LOL :-)
Gotta love em'
Our horses do the same exact things as everything mentioned above and the wheel barrow is the worst. Plus anything on or near the fence must be there for their entertainment; from jackets and hats to coffee cups and water bottles, brushes, hoof picks, you name it, don't leave it in reach of the pasture LoL

My favorite helper is a very shy, hard to catch filly, easy to handle IF you can catch her. My mare has thrush. Its easier to just grab a pick and the spray bottle and clean them in the pasture. She ground ties and 90% of the time stands perfect at liberty. So this shy little filly picks up the spray bottle and brings it to me when I leave it on the ground. Its adorable and she has to stick her nose in my mares hoof while Im picking it :-) Only time she will have anything to do with me is if she is "helping" :-)

Haha you guys have some great stories. Those silly horses. They know how to do it better than us stupid humans. Gotta love those horses of ours. Zeus still tries to help when I'm cleaning, and now Lilly thinks standing in front of the wheel barrel is very helpful for me. Thanks, guys.......
