Steaming Manure?

Now i'm just curious about this but i just relized that when horses go #2 their manure is giving off a steam like smoke what's up with that?

Seriously? How old are you? Anything significantly warmer than the air temp will steam. Same principle allows you to see your breath when it is cold.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

When I saw the title - Steaming Manure? - I wondered how something in the News & Politics subforum showed up in New Posts after I blocked it...:D

Non scientifically, the manure is hot and moist. Warmer and contains more moister then the outside ambient air. So the moister that you see is steam. More or less. A steaming pile ;)

Did you all know that in the years before all the advances in technology, race jockeys used to dig themselves deep into the barns manure pile to "steam" themselves to make weight??

Yeppers, a little pile steams a bit until it cools, but that huge pile 'O poo gets so hot deep inside that it really puts off the heat. Even if the outside air isn't really all that cold, you can usually see steam.

What a load of steaming horse poop! OP, that is a common expression I have heard
