There aren't words to describe this..
Like the title says, there aren't words to describe this... At least not any that I can think of...
The Foals' Perspective: Twin Peaks Roundup - YouTube

Lazy. That doesn't happen when you move them with horses and riders. Just another example of how government workers muck things up. =/

I'm gonna take this opportunity to rant. I have believed for years now that Mustangs should not be left out to breed, then rounded up and sold, then let loose again. It is a brutal life for them. There aren't miles and miles of grazing for them, just pockets of land separated by fenced in property. It is a life of constantly looking for forage and water and trying to avoid predators--cougars, bears and wolves. We don't have the stretches of land needed in the US to do this anymore.
I have posted before that IMHO, we need to certify Mustang breeders, who can mange a herd and certify a mustang for the public to buy, if indeed, we still NEED wild horses. I am sure that they are others who have good solutions, too, so don't bash mine if you think you have a better one. I just don't want to see animals suffer unneccessarily.
It just reminds me SO MUCH of horse owners who take on too many and starve their animals.
I couldn't watch the whole video. I've seen too many of them to stomach watching more.

It's like with wolves. They don't round them up. They help keep their population up and running. Why not do that with mustangs?

Speed Racer 04-16-2013 12:38 PM

Wolves help keep ecosystems in balance, while feral horses destroy them. That's why wolves are protected. They're a valuable predator, not a prey animal that overpopulates and kills off range land needed for native species.

You're obviously unaware that wolves were completely wiped out in the early part of the 20th century in the US. Reintroducing them to their native habitats is an effort to restore the right balance.

Right but keep in mind that the horses are starving and such because we're taking their land

Corporal 04-16-2013 01:32 PM

Mustangs are NOT native to North America. Pronghorn antelopes, white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk and moose are native North American species. We are taking NOTHING from the Mustang. In FACT, it is the RANCHERS who supply water tanks and hay to keep some Mustang herds A L I V E .
...stupid public school indoctrination...

Speed Racer 04-16-2013 01:33 PM

Nope, it isn't THEIR land, it belongs to the United States Government as well as some private citizens.

Even if we left them alone they'd graze it down to absolutely nothing in one season, so they'd be starving anyway.

I don't know where you live Nokota, but you've obviously never seen the type of land these horses inhabit. It's not some lush, green landscape with food abounding. It's harsh and unforgiving, and easily destroyed by overgrazing. Which is why the cattle grazed on that land are only allowed on it for weeks at a time, not all year.

Lol, they did a nice job makin the video extra sad with the music.. the foal calling for momma-- "momma where are you?" "Daddy?" That part cracked me up.. nothing like daddys milk!

Nokotaheaven 04-16-2013 01:46 PM

Doesn't matter really if they're native anymore. They've been roaming the land for what? 3-400 or so years? No animal is technically native to any land because generations back their ancestors migrated there. Same thing as when people move to a different country. It doesn't mean they don't belong there or their rights are any less equal than anyone else's. Actually... Except Native people, no other human is native to North America... Just like the mustang... And both ours and the mustangs ancestors immigrated here at the same time.
I'm not saying this to argue, I'm saying it as food for thought...

Buut, to me I'd say the mustang has about as much right to live on the land as we do... Keep in mind overall people do far far worse to the environment than them too
