Roping saddles

Hey yall, I've been trying to get into calf roping and want to look into a roping saddle, but I don't know much about them. What are good brands of saddles and what are brands to avoid. What features and stuff should I look for in a good saddle and would should I avoid? Thanks!

It really depends on what you want to spend. You can get a Coats for around $3500, a Cactus or Martin(NRS) for about $2-3,000, or a Corriente for around $700. Coats is what a lot of the PRCA cowboys use, Cactus and Martin are both great saddles, and Corrientes are a real good, no frills, tough saddle.

Billy Cook (Sulhur OK) makes good saddles, both of my parents use them.

I got spoiled with a Master Canada rope saddle (gift my my Grandpa - RIP) - I dont even want to know the price they paid for it.
I love it. I have spent SO many hours in this saddle and its not uncomfortable like many rope saddles can get.

Yep, I left out the $1,000-2000 range...I was going to say the "real" billy cooks and courts are a good option is this range.

I only have about $1800 to play with so...

You can get a real good used saddle for that price. Look around see what styles you like, go and sit in a few different brands. I only buy saddles that either are name brand or that I can personally get my hands on to see how they are made.
