Happy Birthday Henny!
Well, Henny is finally a year old! I thought it would be neat to show a progression of the past year. :)
This is Henny's mama 11 days before foaling. Yeah, she was a blimp.
Henny at just a few hours old! He was born out in the pasture and mama was being pretty protective of him.
The day after we brought him home at four months old.
Five months old at his first show. He got last in all his halter classes but he was the best behaved little boy there even though he was the youngest.
Six/seven months old at his first groundwork clinic.
Seven months old. On November 22nd Henny was kicked in the head by another horse. His eyes twitched uncontrollably, his entire head and neck tilted to the left and he could hardly walk straight. It was midnight by the time my vet was available and with all his problems, that little boy still loaded up for me. I was so scared he'd fall that my friend and I rode in the bed of the truck the whole way there to watch him. It was 4 in the morning by the time we left and when we did, I had no idea whether he'd live or not. I cried more than I had ever cried that night, and cried even harder when the vet texted me to let me know he was doing better. This picture is the day after his accident with an IV drip with dex and DMSO. He stayed there for 3 days to recover before my vet felt that he was good enough to be sent home.
9 months old, getting gelded! He also got his first session of acupuncture this day. The biggest residual effect from his accident was his head always tilted to the left. We decided to use acupuncture to see if it would help loosen up the muscles in his neck. He's had 3 sessions so far and his head carriage is normal majority of the time!
His latest acupuncture session last month. He LOVES getting his acupuncture done and is very obviously relaxing for him. He yawns up a storm during and afterwards.
Eleven months looking all manly.
And today! Begrudgingly modeling a birthday hat.
His "cake" He didn't like it because of the carrots so Bubba ate most of it haha
More pictures in the next post!
On the 14th, we took pictures with a professional photographer to celebrate Henny's birthday. I walked him to a few blocks to our local park and he did amazing. No matter how many kids(and adults) ran up to him, he was a gentleman and behaved so well. Near the end, we walked across the bridge in the middle of the lake to take pictures. He was pretty nervous at first but his method of handling it was walking veeery slowly.
I am so proud of this little boy. He's been through so much and is mentally stronger than I could ever hope to be. I hope this next year is smoother sailing for us and it brings as much happiness as his first year did. So happy birthday to my Heenie Weenie! <3
I <3 you two together! Happy Birthday Henny!
Now you just have to survive to 2 years old!
(That's what I told mine anyway :P)
You two are so cute together! Happy B'day Henny!
LOL thank you, OVO! I love you and Lily together as well. Here's hoping our yearlings get to two without any major booboos! :D
