Conformation Critique Please
We have two horses here to critique...the first is my daughter's horse JJ. He is a grade appaloosa (we are pretty sure he is registerable as he came from a breeder but we don't have his paperwork) and is a very sweet boy. He is 15 hands and is almost 6 years old. I used to judge horses in 4H years ago and know the basics but I am curious as to what you all think. To me he has a good straight topline, good tie in, nice chest and good angle on his hindquarters. He is a little camped under in this photo (more than normal) and he does toe out a little in the back and toe in a little in the front but not bad on either. Other than that what do you think. We would love to hear your feedback.
The second is my horse Leaf. He is a 7 year old Rocky Mountain he is 14.2 and actually outweighs JJ by about 100 pounds! He is pretty mutton withered (I had to have a custom saddle made for him!) but has a nice level topline and good straight legs and good hindquarters. He is VERY smooth to ride and is a VERy easy keeper...kind of like his dad I guess. :-) I would love to hear what you think. Not that it will matter, they aren't going anywhere but we are curious! :-)
The app is very sickle hocked the rest of him looks good.
Your gaited horse is cute I know nothing about gaited horses so can't comment on confo.
He does appear to have a cresty neck ...
Appy has nice shoulder and hip, and relatively short back. her neck is tied on a bit low and shows too much muscleing on the underside, and not enough on the upper side (does she brace against the bit or run around "giraffing"?)
She is pretty camped under in that photo, and looks sickle hocked, but she isn't squared up well. front pasterns are short and upright, right not as much.
I kind of like her overall build. I think she's got that, "last a long time" kind of confo.
The RMH is a tank! I think he is overweight, to bo honest. you might want to rethink his food intake. He's got a short , strong back , huge shoulder and hip but neck is kind of short, and like someone said, looks cresty (fat)
Thanks again or the comments and I am anxious to hear what others think.
