I don't know if this is the right section to post this or not, move it if you need to.
Does anyone know how I could go about riding some different horses? Maybe getting into Catch Riding at some local shows? I used to ride all sorts of stuff at other barns in NJ, but now that I am in Montana, I haven't been riding as much different horses. So now that I have just been riding Diesel, I feel like I'm not really challenging myself or progressing. Riding other things keeps me sharp.
Any suggestions? I am going to start riding on the college IHSA team so that will be better, but not until fall...
Maybe you could check to see if there are any boarding stables around who need someone to work horses a couple of days a week. Or, you could check with a trainer and see if they would be willing to take on an apprentice who could ride the horses who are already broke and need exercise or the young ones that just need some miles put on them.
You have to prove that you are an excellent rider. Sure, people in your old area might know that but no one here does. Approach barns, put up ads, and make yourself known. Be prepared to show references when needed.
