cloning late champions
ive recently heard / read an article in a magazine that i read that they cloned GEM TWIST . . . personaly i dont like it . . . i think its against nature . . . and i think that the fact that they would possibly put him up for stud is wrong . . . that horse may have GEM TWIST's dna but it doesnt have GEM TWIST's accomplishments so there for it should not carry GEM TWIST's name . . . but thats my oppinion . . . i would have posted this in the debate forum . . . but is it just me or is it GONE . . . well i dont know so i just posted it here . . . but please i would like to hear your oppinions =)
I fully think cloning is against nature. In nature everything has slightly different DNA and by cloning, you are trying to go against what natures intentions are. Even if you had 5 of the same horse they still all could have a slightly different personality and would perform differently. Much depends on the upbringing of the clones and how they would be trained, cared for, etc... I just hate the idea of cloning anything.
I see the logic behind cloning a stud or broodmare.
The clone will not have the training, fitness and lifestyle of the champion. Therefore it will not perform as the champion would.
But what is the point of being a stud? To pass on DNA. The training, fitness and lifestyle of the champion cannot be passed on even from the original horse. Only the DNA can. The DNA in the clone is exactly the same; hence the clone provides the same benefit to its offspring as the original horse.
Of course, this is not strictly true, as clones can have problems with the stability of their DNA, but broadly it is true. Cloning a horse is an extremely difficult and expensive process, but with a high-value stud it may be economically viable.
In terms of naming and registering, I do not believe the horse should be registered as its source, but as a different horse. Nevertheless, the logic behind breeding to it is the same as the logic behind breeding to the original champion.
They also cloned Zippo Pine Bar he`s Out Laws great grandpa I think its dumb !!!!!!!!
Zippo Pine Bar . . . i think ive heard of him . . . is he a QH?
Scamper was cloned (Barrel Horse). He was like an 11 time NBHA world barrel horse but a gelding. So they cloned him and are keeping him a stud but not barrel racing him...
I can definitely see why you would do it.
Royal Blue Boon an AQHA mare (with many AQHA world champions, such as Peptoboonsmal) was cloned twice.
AQHA is not allowing cloned horses to be registed. I don't agree or disagree with it.
i heard they were going to clone Peppy San....i just dont get why they would want to do that. If they start cloning i dont think they are giving new and upcoming stallions a chance to become known. But i guess that wouldnt really happen for a long time...i dont know..
They can't be registered? I wasn't sure about that or not.
I don't really agree or disagree with it either, thats a good way to put it
I think everything has to change. That's just the way of life in general. I would like to think that the greats should be honored and remembered. Not re-produced completely. I see the reasons why folks would want to clone. I'm just not sure I like it. We could be missing out on world class horses by looking to the past. I think everything has it's season.
