It's coming down pretty hard over here now! I need a little advice on some things:

-I bought some nice hoof dressing for Blaze's hooves. Should I put that on tonight and then Vaseline?
-Should I be putting Vaseline on his hooves even when I'm not riding to prevent snowballs?
-Should I trim his fetlock hair?

I would put the hoof dressing on in the evening if he's stalled, it will get a good chance to soak into the hoof. I wouldn't bother with the Vaseline riding or not riding.

I've tried that and Crisco it doesn't work. Eventually the snow builds up especially if their shod. Riding barefoot seems to eliminate snow build up.

I also don't worry about fetlocks if they come in at night. They get a a chance to dry overnight. I do check that their not getting any sores around the bulb. It's when the snow goes and the mud is left when you get more problems.

Thanks G&K. However, he's on 24/7 pasture board, so no stalling at night for him.

He IS barefoot though.

The snow is already melting and dripping. :? I couldn't go out tonight because my bf spun out in my car, hit a curb and wrecked my alignment. gah.
