stallions value?

I gave out an ad saying from today till 12/25/08 my worlds qualifier, quturity winner, ROMS stallion would be lowered to 300 for that month if they paid now then bred in Spring. A few friends said its a great idea and a few others said its just plain stupid. What do you think?

It has been done by reputable and non reputable breeders.

A reputable breeder usually does it with a new stallion to introduce him to the public. They may also do it on a proven producer as a give back to the public.

A non reputable breeder does it because they have a poor quality stud and are desperate for mares.

It is up to the mare owner to try to decide which catagory the potential stud owner falls under.

So what happens if you have a high quality stallion but your ranch is new to the area?

well hopefully your stallion has some quality foals to back him up, and then you say you're offering him at an introductory price

i lucked out when it came to my stud. I live in a very small town where blood lines arent a big deal really but my stud has the perfect blood lines(in my eyes) hehe. I got lucky because my stud has been every where in BC and so have his babys. So when my grandfather passed away and the stud became mine the mares just followed. I have never had an outside mare from my town....i lucked out that way so i never had to drop his stud fee...

Sire of klondikes confetti, bestofintentions, Mighty Luv follows U and many other QUALITY futurity winning horses.

Cougar also has been shown all over the US (From what his last 5 owners tell me) lol. He's got strong bloodlines, color, personality, confirmation, show background, and winning foals on the ground.

agreed^^^^

You see it a lot in like the AQHA magazines "book before December 30 to get money off your breeding"... I think breeders like to do it because then they know what the upcoming breeding schedule will look like. Also some breeders will only bring in a certain amount of mares, after then the stud will more then likely be used for showing/etc...
