I need some guidance, dressing for western shows.

I would really like to take Emmy to a show or two this year, probably small and local, but I'd like to blend in with the crowd, and not stick out like the English rider who has sneaked in for a look.

Here she is in wearing her new blanket

I like the color on her, the headstall will be her show one, just need to upgrade her to a shank rather than the snaffle and I hope she is good to go.

For me, well I have black hat, boots and pants, so I'm hoping that will do, I also have a straw hat hanging around I think.

I guess I'll need a show shirt, I have a black one, I have a black and gold sparkly sort of thing, not if that would fit right now though:oops: If I only have one shirt what sort of style and color should I have that I can wear for anything I may want to do?

I don't have chaps, not sure as I want to spend that much, and don't know if you can get them to fit thunder thighs like mine anyway.

HELP

A black one with crystal accents on the collar and cuffs and make sure it has the zip up front. Very slimming, there was a very large lady wearing a total black outfit (she did have black suede chaps) with a shirt like that, she looked gorgeous! I admired her outfit so much, I copied it for this year and I am not plus sized but I want her look!

For some reason your picture isn't showing up, Golden, but if it's the one I saw on another thread I think it's a solid coloured one (quite complimentary given her colour). Since you're going small/local for shows, I think you could get by with a regular collared off-the-rack shirt (that may or may not have pockets) in pattern that incorporates the saddle blanket colour. Couple that with the rest of your ensemble in black, you'll be quite presentable.

P.S. From my experience, there is quite a variation in dress at the smaller shows - from the consummate dressed-to-the-nines professional to the casual but decently attired amateur (that by the way is my style).

In our local shows, many of the women are wearing nice button down Oxford shirts (long sleeved) with a pretty neck scarf. I could see a white or black short with a lavender scarf (to match your blanket) looking really nice.

I've imitated the look for my 10 year old. She wears black pants, chaps, and boots with a white Oxford shirt in her trail classes. She has a turquoise blanket for her horse and a turquoise scarf around her neck. I also purchased a silve and turquoise scarf slide to dress it all up.

Sounds pretty, will think about that one.

Decent and casual will do me fine! and yes it is the purple blanket, that will be her color, so will be collecting purple for her.

That sounds really pretty, I will have to search for some pics of that look, what sort of scarf and how do you wear it:oops:

I know this says "for men", but this is where I purchased Kitten's scarf and we love it.

Good suggestions here...
I love your horse! And the saddle. It looks comfortable. What brand is it if I may ask?

For my local, non-rated shows, I frequently wear a Hobby Horse shirt, black jeans and black boots. Sometimes I wear chaps, others I don't (summertime 100+ F) and it hasn't made a bit of difference in my placings. I DO groom my horse to within an inch of his life, just as if we were going showing at the World Champs, and I use all my silver show tack. But if you're just doing it for fun and not intending to show at higher levels, I'd just use nice quality, CLEAN, tack and let it go at that.

Here's one that's kind of similar to my blouse:

I have an article in my latest Journal about how to wear a scarf, I'll find it and scan it in to my computer and put it up for you.
