Possible Cracked Rib

Yeppers! Acording to most of my family, I probably have a cracked rib! Isn't life grand.

Wanna know how it happened? Course you do! Lol.

My mare launched me the other day... in our yard! My grandmothers huge rooster attacked her as we rode by and she just went completely nuts and turned into a right bronc... I was using a relatively new bit on her after a long time of using a hackamore, so I didn't want to jerk back on the reins... I tried to just hang on until she was through her little fit, but I couldn't quite make it and she launched me through the air...

Right now, it hurts to cough, breathe deeply, laugh, yawn, and other things like that. It's been getting worse these past few days; I've been living on aspirin.

I'm not gong to a doctor, though, because you can't do anything for broken or cracked ribs so why bother making an unnecessary trip and wasting precious money...

what they do is tape you up to kind of hold them from moving so much.
but I would want to make sure they weren't broken, that could lead to
much more trouble especially if a broken one punctures something else
So xrays might be in order. especially since it has been getting worse.

They're hurting again, so I'm not using my right side much to try and keep from messing something up worse... I have ace bandages here I can wrap them with... our health insurance runs out in a few weeks, and as long as I'm not in major pain, I'm not too worried... It's just kind of like a dull throb with sharp pains every few minutes... I can tell it's there, the pain, I mean... but if I focus hard enough, I can ignore it.

I would have them looked at before your insurance runs out .

If I remember right, all of your ribs are not connected to the sternum

they are called the floating ribs. and can move

men have an odd number since Adam had to give up one for Eve.

Maybe... no one in the family seems too concerned about it... and if I do indeed have a cracked rib, at least I've finally had a semi-serious injury relating to horses...

I'll wait a few more days and see how it feels, if it gets much worse I'll go see a doctor... but I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill, if you get my drift. I'll wait until Friday, because I'm scheduled to go horseback riding with a friend on Friday... who knows, maybe i'll have an actual valid excuse to cancel on her (I really don't like riding with her much because she always wants to switch horses because she's scared of her horse)...

RegalCharm 11-27-2008 12:03 AM

well I don't think you will be riding Friday. LOL.
even a cracked rib will take some time to heal

Britt 11-27-2008 12:08 AM

Knowing me, I'll probably end up and tell my friend that I can't go, then wait a few hours and go riding anyway... Else i'll be at my cousins house spending the night with them.

I do get what youre saying about I probably should see a doctor... I just don't want to waste the money when there's really not much that can be done... I tend to talk myself out of things that cost a lot of money (unless I'm buying for a horse)...

RegalCharm 11-27-2008 12:15 AM

LOL< a typical horse lover:lol:

Haha... Glad you understand (of course you do, though... on this forum, who wouldn't...?)
