Schooling show- critique eq?
I've been riding for 12 years but recently switched from a 4H barn to a hunter/jumper barn as I want to learn to jump properly! This is after about a month and a half of lessons here, this is the third time I've ridden this horse. She makes me a little nervous as her stride and jump feel really big. So I'm trying my best to stay calm and relaxed when we jump.
I love my new trainer and trust her advice, but I would like to hear anyone's advice for relaxing while jumping and trusting that Anya (lesson horse) won't do anything wrong! Not to mention if there's anything glaring-ly wrong with my position!
Please don't critique the horse, she does not belong to me, I only ride her in lessons.
Hmm, I think that's about it. I welcome constructive criticism, but please don't rip me to shreds! I know I'm nowhere near perfect, not even close!
This was just a small schooling show at our barn, I did the crossrails class. I did win my equitation on the flat class and so I was pretty happy about that!

You guys look very nice together.
You leaned right before the first jump, clapping you shoulders and had no core to support you so with both of those imguessing you maybepicmched your knees as well.
You had no release. Even with small jumps you hands need to at least bout of your lap....on the flay you had nicely bent elbows and yours shoulders where down and back....hands where up...nothing changes when the jumps are that small....keep things the same, easy and rhythmic. Count in your head to find your stride... Lots Of shoulder rolls and deep breath will help relax you and your horse.
Have you and your trainer been working on grids?
This could help you finder stride and get used to it, help you flow with her and teach you to stay relaxed with the horse.
Stick with it, only been a month and a half ....think of where you will be in 6 months!

For some reason when I jump Anya I feel like we're going the speed of light, but then when I see the video I know we aren't actually going very fast. But while we're jumping it makes me really nervous and I start to hunch and jump ahead...
And it's bad.
Last August I fell off while cantering and broke my collarbone and it was hard to get back on and start jumping again, even though I want to. I think that's why I get so nervous, but I'm not sure how to work past it!
I think you should feel very happy with your performance. So few lessons and looking so good! Sweet!.
