I have bought toby a pair of splint boots, i do not know if he has worn splint boots before so i do not know what he will do? and how tight are they suppoesed to be? i have so many questions about them. any help would be nice.
go toby for scoring some new gear!
if he has had any farrier work done, it should be easy to get around him and get them on. you can expect him to high step around a bit if he has never worn them. that's normal though and he'll quit pretty quickly.
are they velcro like the SMB's over at Professional's Choice - Protective Gear - SMBE
or leather like the splint boots over at https://www.edgalemba.com/sesamoidsplintbootdetail.php
the reason i ask is because you need to be careful when removing them if they're velcro and he has never had them on before. the sound can sometimes scare horses.
have fun with your new stuff!
Thank you! then are not leather they are like a noeporne. and they are velcrow but i think he will be ok. thank you! appy rider 4 life, your horse's coat reminds me of Oreo Cookie Ice Cream.
jamesjobrien is right, you need to get him used to that sound before putting them on. When he's not paying attention to the sound anymore you can start trying them on and off.
I have the same splint boots. Mine are black :)
I got them for my app mare (but I use them on my qh as well) I just put them on. Didn't get her used to the velcro at all. She was fine with it.
You know your horse better than anyone else. if he's a horse that gets startled easily, take the time to get him used to it. If he's a chill, laid back guy, he should be fine.
My mare also walked funny (lifting her legs up high) but she soon got over that hehe
it takes a lot to scare Toby, and he does look like a Oreo!
