We have a 16.2 hand Arabian. He is a big boy =)
From everything I have read on Arabians since we purchased him last year...this breed is normally smaller in size.
Jack also has very large hooves...
For those of you that have Arabians.. what are the ranges in size from your experiences?
well my gelding is a arab/morgan cross. His sir was 16H and his dam was 15.3H. Sparky is 16.1H....which is a good size for arabians. i would say that most arabs around around the 14-15H mark...
Yup most arabs don't exceed 16h, its pretty rare.
sam is 14.3hh
lol I had a short little 14 hand arab:lol: She is awesome though. She is retired now.
I have fallen in love with the breed! I am glad Jack is not the only gentle giant Nicole lol. Is that Sam in the picture Amy? If so he is beautiful :)
My shortest Arabian would be Maiden, who's about 13.3... I could stretch it and say she just might reach the 14h mark.
My tallest would be my stallion, who is just over 15h.
Most of my other's are between 14.3-15h, which is about average for an Arabian.
Most of the arabs I have seen, only ridden 2 in the past but they never exceeded 15'1hh. It's along the lines of QHs being so tall as well. Every horse is different. Your guys full bred? how is he to ride? Some of the most comfortable horses I have ridden were the arabs.
He is like a gentle giant. He has been acting up since we brought the new horse in, he is acting VERY jealous when I go around Rusty and not him. But.. before this, which I am sure will pass lol... he is very sweet... He loves to run.. loves it. My husband is mostly the one to ride him though. He has an old injury from an event that his first owner had him in, and it left a huge knot on his rear knee. The vet said it could have been a break that did not heal properly, but we are not certain. It is a little bigger than my fist. We figure that is why he does not run top speed possibly. It does not seem to bother him at all...we just know he should be faster than what he is. I am not complaining though, he is a true pleasure to ride at any speed, and very light on the reins. Right after we got him I was riding him out back in a clearing by the woods, and it had just rained and I was not feeling good.( I should have had my rear end inside lol) Needless to say we were galloping, and we hit a soggy spot and he slid forward. In that split second I was preparing to go over his head... he caught him self and I ended flying off to the side instead. It was totally my fault. He felt me come off, and here I was on the ground feeling like I had just tumbled off a building, and he spun around and walked up in front of me...facing me, and stood there with his head down jsut looking at me very calmly. My husband saw it from a distance and by the time he got out there where we were I was up. The point to that story is, I have taken tumbles off other horses... but they never turned around and stood there like that... they would always take back off to the barn lol... I knew then he was great... it was me that needed the work lol.
I never understood the big deal with the Arabs... now I do.
Yes.. he is full blood. He is just huge ;)
They truly are amazing horses, that's for sure.
My guy didn't stop for me, but I still love him. :D
Love and live like no other breed.
I'd be willing to bet that his old injury isn't a old break... or your vet should have told you not to ride him. Cyst, perhaps? Cartilidge/tendon injury... I'd maybe get a second opinion.
What's his breeding like, if I can ask?
