please critique my HORSE not the rider.

this was taken on saturday. we are in a round pen because it was a lesson day and we couldn't get into a ring.:-| we had to make a makeshift jump because thats the best we could do. also, the footing wasn't great (you can see the puddle).

Doc is a 8YO Quarter Horse Gelding. He hasn't been ridden in a while due to my injury, so he was a little stiff and mad we were making him bend. But other than that, feel free to critique. :D

sorry i put the wrong link up to the video.

here is the right one.

Okay, I have never jumped- so I don't know anything about it. The horse looks to be a bit over weight/hay belly...maybe...hard to tell from the video...and he has a thick neck. Cute guy though.

KatieStanley 12-07-2008 08:03 PM

OH! And I forgot to add...he seems very willing to jump. So thats a positive!

We Control The Chaos 12-07-2008 08:13 PM

thanks. its hay belly probably from not being ridden in a while. :-(

he loves to jump. so thats a good thing for me :D

It's extremely hard to critique a horse undersaddle when it's not being ridden to its full potential, and the only thing I'm going to say is your horse is very kind tempered.

wow! I have a 26 year old sorrel Qh gelding named Doc that loves to jump too! that is so crazy! what is your horses show name? He isn't in my avvie by the way, that is my other horse.

SonnyWimps 12-08-2008 08:32 AM

your horse looks nice. I'm not real knowledgeable at jumping, but it almost looks like he's rushing the jumps...he started too late on a few of them also. But he's a cute jumper!
Also he is tossing his head alot...has his mouth been checked in a while? That could be a sign of teeth being needed to be floated.

I don't think he has that thick of a neck, but instead the muscles seem to have been build on the bottom of his neck instead of the top. Also, I like a horse to be kinda chubby in winter....he's not even half as bad as my guy hehe

But Doc looks soooooooo willing!!!!!!!!!!! He's so cute!

He's DARLING. I'm sure he'll do really well in the local hunt shows. (Is he a pony or a horse?). He travels on his front end but a lot of hunt horses do. Traveling on his front end throws his balance off a little and that's why he was breaking on you in the round pen, when he breaks like that I'd pull him completely down before asking to go back into a canter just because he would collect up a little better and look prettier. If he were in a bigger ring I'll bet he's a pretty consistent little booger. He doesn't look like he'd ever refuse a jump. Very cute guy. Can't wait to see a better video.

As for his teeth and head tossing, I don't think it's a teeth issue, he only did it when he broke from the canter and was pushed back from a strung out trot into the canter.... I like him.

I agree with Anabel.
