Shocking=almost broken neck!!
The only reason why this is in here is because I need some opinions on shock ruduceing!
And heres the reason why!
As everyone knows chance was abused the first 3 years of her life [shes 5 now] and shes very sensative. Well I was brushing chance before my ride and I shocked her nose and she FLEW backwards broke the cross ties then I was like okay... and hooked her back up and told my friend to put her on QUICK release... what does she do.... Hook her to ******* wall!!! [I didnt notice at first]
So I was petting her nose and I think my coat shocked her so she FLEW backwards once more and she got the other side broken but the other side would budge so she was flaying around she fell to the floor and twisted her neck then it ripped the metal from the wall! [THANK GOD]
Watching her go threw this made me go int a crying fit because I COULDNT help her! It would have been WAY to dangerous to get inbetween that no matter how much I wanted to go.
I ran after her and the look in her eyes and she looked at me like I did it! Almost like... and I trust you with my life??? I put on leather gloves and hugged her head sooooooo tight like crying and told her hoowww sorry I was then the next 20 mins I wouldn't touch her and wouldn't let her touch me. I didn't trust myself to touch her.
So she started smileing and showing off then licked my hand and I was leaning against the wall and she came over to me and started rubbing on me with her head almost like wow mom okay I know you didnt mean to!
I had to have my friend tack her up for me, so then I bridled her and she took the bit soo nicely! It ended REALLY well and I tried to continue like nothing happened. I checked her poll and her legs ect and it seemed fine but you know never know ... till later..
All the way home I was blameing myself and crying thinking about how I could have killed my horse!!
BUT shes NOT going back on cross ties till I figure out how to get rid of the shock! ... I got dryer sheets to rub her down with but idk if that will help!
I need ideas!
Ill check her before my lessons and if she seems really sore theres not gonna be any riding.
What about static guard? I know this might sound stupid, but can you spay her with static guard, or even your grooming tools?
Where would I be able to get some? Trust me right now im willing to try anything!
I'm sorry that this happened, but luckily Chance is fine and didn't hurt herself!
You can get Static Guard at wal-mart. It's in a blue spray bottle with an orange cover.
OMG you poor thing and your poor girl!! I cried reading it!! I know the mommy guilts, they never go away but time will make it better. She knows in her heart that it was not you. Don't be hard on yourself ( I know easier said then done) I hope she is fine and my thoughts are with you and chance.
How hard did you shock her? is there anything new that you were wearing or using form the ordinary? As it has been mentioned, there is a spray you can use. I would touch something else, anything new you to get rid of the static there first before touching your mare. She's also acting a bit more on the off side like that to tho.
I wouldn't have let your friend tack her up after that! Nah, just joking. Ok, try not to wear wool around your horse coz that creates static, and so does man-made fibres. Try to wear natural sort of fabrics because they are less likely to create static and shock your horse. Glad she's ok though :)
Thanks everyone! I guess i must have shocked her pretty hard even though I didnt feel much. Ill look for the static guard sometime when im at wal mart! When I shocked her I wasnt wearing gloves and I had my coat on..... But she had a blanket on about 20 minutes before that happened....
I didnt seem to shock her when I had the gloves on do im gonna hope that continues! Ill touch the metal feeder before i touch her!
HAF- Dryer sheets also eliminate static. You can just rub her down with one.
Duh...sorry I forgot you had already said this. They do work. :D
