Tack Boxes

Let's see them. I did a trip a couple months ago and then a couple weeks ago again to see what the local tack store had to offer and I was very disappointed. Other than the traveling metal incased tack boxes (which were nothing more than a big box with 1 saddle rack) all they had was a green plastic one on wheels for $1,500! what blew me away is how can they find it legit to charge you that much for them and there was NOTHING in it. It had 2 saddle racks and 2 plastic over hangings in the door and that was it!

My brother who also does carpentry is in the middle of finishing one for me for christmas but my question is this, what did you guys do? what do you do now for your tack, what does your barn offer for space? locker? if you do have a box where did you get it etc etc?

Most of the people I know had theirs made as they could design it and get it made for way less.

Start thinking 'outside the box.' Soooo many of my 'tack boxes' are really nothing more than rubbermaid containers....or buckets....or something I've found at the local discount store. If they hold what I need them to...they fit the bill! One of these 'carry-all' thingamabobs has a drawer in it that fits my hoof pick perfectly. I also carry a screwdriver (In case I have to fix a headstall), chicago screws, some leather ties, a few of those plastic tie down things, my leather punch...a scissors.
On the topside I carry the brushes, curry, flysprays, shampoo, etc. I don't necessarily throw that in the trailer every time I go out, but it does come in handy to just grab the carry-all, and all that stuff is right there! Or...I'll throw the stuff I do need into it.
I have nooooo idea what kind of 'tack space' is provided at the barns. You could pick up one of those huge plastic lidded boxes for your saddle/blankets,
etc. (if it has wheels...all the better...if not...hey, it works!) I like to keep mothballs rolling around in the bottom. Keeps the mice out!

We have lockers with room for 2 saddles and space above. A lady that boards where im at shows, and she has one of those travel tack box green things....looks like a garbage pale (not in a mean way) to me, but I thought it was pretty neat... but not for $1500!

I use bags. Gear bags for my junk and saddle bags for the saddles. It makes it lots easier to carry everything.

Up until now I've used a big tool trunk from the local hardware store. Actually worked great and I'll continue to use it for all my extra gear but it would be nice to have a box that I can move around to shows but as well keep at the barn for all my gear.
I've even asked to have a polo wrap shelf

I've recently found a few sellers on eBay of tack boxes but they still seem over priced for what they actually are.
