7 Month Old Filly Got Cut On Bale Feeder!
We have an old cattle bale feeder that when we got it we had to weld it together it was over 4 pieces.
My 7 month old filly loves to lay down and sunbathe, and most of the time its right by the bale feeder.
Today she walked up to me and I always rub her down and I noticed that she got cut on it. She hasn't had a tetanus shot yet either (I know, not good). The next time I get to the farm store I will get one.
She isn't used to the water hose at all or even a spray bottle, I don't know how she would react either. She isn't lame at all on it, but she is tender if you touch around it. We are moving her tomorrow into a full grass pasture which will be better than the half dirt pasture she is in now.
What would you do? Flies or other bugs aren't real bad right now.
Wash it with iodine- put some blue-kote on it- scrap the bale feeder. ;-)
IMO keep it clean and try cutheal (I like the gel). It'll keep the bugs off, the wound clean and aid healing.
