Should I worry about this?
I had the flu for the past week and just got out yesterday to see Addy for the first time. She had what looked like a nasty bite from one of the other two geldings she is pastured with. From what I can tell it just took off the hair- it's not deep. I didn't have any ointment so I put some MTG on it (it's supposed to help with wounds too). What do you think? Something I should call the vet about? Should I use something besides MTG? It probably needs something with medicine in it.
Nah, I wouldn't worry too much. It doesn't look very deep. When bites like that occur around our barn, we put a little Cut Heal or Schriener's on it. Keep an eye on it though, and call a vet if you get worried. :-)
Thanks- Yeah it's not deep at all...just took the hair off and just a ittty bit of skin. I'll run by the store and grab a better ointment on my lunch break.
It's a long way from the heart ;) I think she'll live.
She will survive. Clean the wounds and put what has already been mentioned and it will be just fine.
Call the vet only if infection sets in or if some strange changes occur.
It looks pretty minor, nothing to worry about. :) It should heal soon.
Thanks guys :D I figured I was just being an over protective mama
We keep Corona ointment for those inevitable nicks and cuts from horse fighting. It looks an awful lot like Desitin.
It should be fine, just put some ointment on it and make sure that you watch it to make sure it doesn't get infected, but I doubt that it will.
We alway put bag balm on everything like that, and it actually works pretty well.
