Some kind of Fungus?
Here at the station we picked up two new work horses from a station nearby. They had been out of work for a while and both has little scabs on their faces/ears, but not too bad so we didn't think too much of it.
One has been turned out as he wasn't sound, but the other was brought in today and the fungus has just exploded over his ears. Both ears all all scab around the tips and edges, as well as more scabs over his face and a few on the top of his neck. They aren't too sore to touch, and they are true scabs, not just hairless patches.
Same boy got kicked in the face so he also has a puffy cheek :-(. We are treating his cheek but don't really have any idea how to go about treating his ears/scabs.
It doesn't seem to be contagious as the four horses he was paddocked with haven't picked it up. His ears looks worse in real life, there are scabs covered by the hair.
Anyone seen this kind of fungus/scabbiness before? Any ideas on treatment?
I haven't seen this before. Personally, I would have a vet look at it.
