Taping Hooves
I'm a new horse owner and need some advice.

In the past week my horses back hooves (no shoes) have started to split and peel away--and quickly. I have the ferrier coming out on Tuesday but until then I don't want the situation to worsen or for something to get lodged up in there. Should I tape them or something? If so, what type of tape should I use.

Again, I'm new to this so I would appreciate any help you can offer.

i would tape them in ducktape *spelling?* but the only thing about this is you would have to check on him everyday to make sure the tape is still on, and when you tape the hooves make sure you aren't taping his hair as well. hope it all goes well :)

i agree with the post below, i'm might need to invest into hoof conditioner as well.

sometimes when a horse is barefoot, their hooves with become brittle if they are too dry or not trimmed properly. If the chips are really bad, get a rasp and smooth down any sharp edges until the farrier can get out. Also, ask the farrier is you should use any horse hoof conditioner to prevent chipping, etc.
