Success with post ovulation insemination after 12 hours!
Hello, I am fairly new to this forum but have been on a number of others for a good few years now (more then i care to admit!)

Today Delicia was scanned ot have a 16 day pregnancy after been inseminated earlier in the month. A quick run down...

A routine scan showed dee presenting a 43mm egg! So quick call to stallion owner she was inseminated the next day. Somewhere between the 13 hours between scans dee ovulated! Sneaky mare! However, the semen quality was good so the vet inseminated.

She had to have a few oxytocin injections as she had a bit of fluid build up and some antibiotics into the uterus so we were not really hopeful of this pregnancy. Having researched the internet it is well documents that frozen semen is inseminated post ovulation, however with chilled on a maiden then we have no real background to work with.

I am thrilled that she is in foal, it is the culmulation of a lot of late nights injecting dee with both hormones and oxytocin injections.

So maybe this is a good story, there is a chance of pregnancy after ovulation, but really 12 hours is the window with the best hope!

That's wonderful news! Did you end up using frozen or chilled semen and was the mare a maiden or no? Would love to know more about the mommy-to-be and welcome to the forum!

Thank you!

Yes she is a maiden and we used chilled semen. The motility rathe was just under 78% so was good stuff really. I was a bit of a gamble but it seems to have paid off.

Oo he is nice! What breed is he?

Schwarzwaelder Fuchs..... literally translated as "Black Forest Chestnut" a cold blooded small draft horse, almost extinct. Rondo is 14.1 hh, and weighs 1400 lbs.

My mare is 14 hh, and weighs 800 lbs soaking wet, on a fat day. VERY feminine.

The fillies are 14 hh, and weigh 950- 1000 lbs. LOVE them!
